Workshops

Among the aims of CNCF is to further the development of artists in Cayman. To this end, CNCF sponsors workshops in various disciplines. Some are free while others carry a modest fee. The longest running CNCF workshop is the annual playwriting workshop.

The playwriting workshop is conducted in conjunction with the annual CNCF National Playwriting Competition. Over the years aspiring playwrights have had the opportunity to gain insight and coaching from the likes of theatre professionals such as Eugene Williams, the Director of the School of Drama at Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts in Jamaica.

Only those attending the workshop are eligible to enter CNCF’s National Playwriting Competition. The competition is open to anyone resident in the Cayman Islands.

Previous Workshops

CNCF has also hosted workshops for dance and fashion design. Most recently a dance workshop was held for Cayfest production of Dance Vibes with dances from the Cuban dance troupe Ballet de la Television Cubana. Last year a workshop on JonKunnu dance movements was conducted by noted Caribbean dancer and choreographer Howard Daley. Workshop participants performed at the 2008 Pirates Week Landing.

The fashion design and modelling workshop are held during Cayfest in association with the Fresh! Cayman Couture fashion show. One such workshop concentrated on Fashion Illustration and Collection Development under the direction of Patricia Kentish-Skeete, the Senior Lecturer and Head of the Textile & Fibre Arts Department at Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts. The Cayman Islands Investment Bureau sponsored the workshop.

Future workshops are posted on this page and the calendar page as they are scheduled.
