The Cayman Islands International Storytelling Festival, better known as GIMISTORY, brings together storytellers from Cayman, the Caribbean, North America and beyond to entertain old and young alike. The festival is acclaimed by those who have attended storytelling festivals in North America and the UK as being among the best anywhere. The festival takes place in parks, beaches, and even a private backyard, all of which evokes an atmosphere of the old days when storytelling was our only entertainment. Admission is FREE!

During the day, storytellers visit schools making special presentations to students. A unique aspect of the event is the free fried fish, fritters and swanky (Cayman style lemonade) that is served to the audience at the end of the show. In 2009, the "fry fish 'n swanky" tradition of Gimistory took a new twist and became a culinary competition. Each district now competes for the honours of Best Fried Fish, Best Swanky or Best Fritters. The judging is conducted with the help of the Best of Cayman, which also polls the public for its opinion and calculates the responses into a percentage of the overall judging.

Audience capacity is usually standing room only, but you’re welcome to put your blanket or towel down wherever you can find a space.
