The Freedom of Information Law, 2007 (FOI Law) gives the public the right to access information held by public authorities such as Cayman National Cultural Foundation. CNCF fully supports the implementation of this law and stands ready and willing to assist the public with their requests for information.
Below is basic information on the FOI Law, how to apply for information and the procedure we will use in processing applications for information. For a more complete review of the FOI Law, please visit the Freedom of Information Unit website.
The Freedom of Information Law gives people in Cayman and overseas access to a wide range of records held by a public authority but also provides exemptions for certain types of information such as personal information and certain commercial information. In some cases an exemption can be waived because of an overriding public interest in the information sought.
PROCEDURE CNCF will acknowledge the request within 10 calendar days after receiving it. A decision to release the information fully or partially, deny or defer the release of information, will be communicated to you within 30 calendar days after receipt of the request. If completing the procedure is going to take longer than 30 calendar days, for reasons allowed by the FOI Law, you will be notified that the deadline for a decision has been extended.
RIGHT OF APPEAL If you are unsatisfied with the decision, you have the right to appeal by requesting an Internal Review of the decision. CNCF Managing Director Marcia Muttoo, who is designated CNCF’s Chief Officer for Freedom Of Information purposes, conducts the Internal Review. If still unsatisfied with the decision of the Internal Review, the requestor has the right to appeal to the Freedom of Information Commissioner.
